My name is Godfred Enyan, but I’m popularly known as King Sobada from Ghana. I have a BSc in Administration with a focus on Public Administration from the University of Ghana.

I am a young Ghanaian using music as an advocacy tool to raise awareness about gender equality and women’s empowerment in Africa, the devastating impacts of climate change, and the urgent need for action. Additionally, I advocate for disability rights to ensure equity and vast inclusivity in every area of human endeavor.

My songs have been featured on numerous local and international media platforms, including the Voice of America, DW Women, Gambia Radio and Television Stations, Capital FM Zambia, and many others.

I have won several awards, this is including the Global Citizen’s SDGs Innovation Challenge and the Africa Climate and Social Justice Awards. I have also been nominated for the Future is Female Awards by Leading Ladies of Africa and the Ghana Change Makers Awards.

I am an alumnus of the Nairobi Summer School on Climate Justice and serve as the Ghana Representative for the Africa Climate Band – a  group of musicians from different countries using music to raise awareness about climate change. Additionally, I am a member of Youth For Adaptation Finance in Africa and the Climate Justice Movement Ghana.  I have performed on various platforms both within Ghana and internationally.

You wake up, not because you want to, but because the light creeping through the curtains demands it. The weight of the night clings to you like a suffocating blanket, leaving you paralyzed, unable to shake the darkness that’s been following you for so long. You lie there, staring at the ceiling, wishing for something, anything, to make it stop. But nothing does. It never does.

The mirror shows you something you don’t recognize anymore. The person staring back seems like a stranger, someone far removed from who you thought you were. There’s a hollow emptiness in your chest, a gnawing ache that won’t go away no matter how many times you tell yourself that you should be better, should be more, should be worthy of love. But you’re not. So tears run down your chicks like a silent stream in the dark valley. You can’t even remember the last time you felt like you deserved anything good. You’ve made too many mistakes. You’ve hurt the one person ever close to you and so it feels like you’ve hurt the entire world. And that’s all you can see now; the wreckage of your choices, the face of those you’ve let down, and the unforgivable things you’ve said and done.

You can hear their voices, even now. The echoes of their disappointment, their anger, frustration, and their sadness. Like the boomerang, no matter how far you keep throwing them away, they always find their way back to haunt you, follow you like shadows that grow longer with each passing day. You try to silence them, but they only get louder. You wonder if they’re right. Maybe you’re just a failure, destined to disappoint. Maybe everyone was right to walk away. Maybe you’ve always been unworthy of the things you wanted… of the love they had to offer.

There are moments when you think back to the times you’ve had the brief glimpses of happiness, and you wonder why they couldn’t have lasted. Why did you let them slip through your fingers, why did you sabotage every good thing that ever came your way? You realize you are to blame for it all, that you’ve got to account for it all, and that no reason under the earth is going to make it make sense or justify it all; it was just pure evil. And so you feel so small. So invisible. You wonder why you even bother to keep going, why you haven’t just given in to the numbness that calls to you, that promises peace in the silence.

And yet, you still breathe; heavy breaths, as though from collapsed lungs and a slow beating heart. Even though you don’t think you deserve it, even though every breath feels like a burden. You can’t seem to stop yourself from waking up each day, from dragging yourself through the motions. It’s as if something deep inside of you, buried beneath the layers of shame and sorrow, refuses to let go. Maybe it’s hope, or maybe it’s just fear, fear of truly giving up.

You don’t know how much longer you can keep going like this. It’s hard to imagine a world where you find peace with yourself, where you can look in the mirror without feeling like you’re staring at a ghost. But somewhere, in the deepest part of you, there’s a tiny, fragile whisper. A part of you that still believes it’s possible to be more than this, to find redemption, to somehow

Be worthy again. You don’t know if you’ll ever reach that place, or if you even deserve to. But it’s there, and for now, that’s enough.

And so, you continue. Even though you don’t believe you’re worthy. Even though you feel the weight of regret like a heavy chain around your neck and feet. You keep going. Because, somewhere deep inside, there’s a small part of you that refuses to give up completely. Maybe that’s all you need to hold on to, for now.

knowledge to meet their basic needs.

“In 2014, at just 14 years old, I fled the Democratic Republic of Congo with my family due to
insecurity and sought refuge in Uganda. Adjusting to life in Nakivale was tough. Coming from a
French-speaking country, I faced language barriers and lacked the skills to meet even my basic
needs. During those challenges, I promised myself that if I ever overcame them, I would support
other women and girls. That promise gave birth to Mwinda, a startup organisation that
empowers young girls and women through health sessions and skill development programs.

To any woman who feels left behind or discouraged, remember this: you have the strength to
rise again. We are strong, and we can make it together.”

I am Favour Ojieh, chemical Scientist founder of VOCA (voice of Climate Action); growing up in Obiaruku, Delta State, Nigeria, surrounded by lush green landscapes and natural beauty, I developed an innate love for the environment.

But it wasn’t until my NYSC service year in Bayelsa, where I was assigned to the Ministry of Environment, that this love transformed into purpose. I vividly remember the day a devastating flood swept through my apartment.

It was a wake-up call. My director, Mr. Ere Wakedei, introduced me to environmental meetings, including one with Terra Global. This exposure opened my eyes to the urgent need for climate action, especially in our communities. Fueled by passion, I embarked on a journey to create solutions. My research into recycling began with something simple yet impactful plastic waste.

I envisioned transforming what many discarded as useless into something valuable. After about 20 months of experiments, some failing, I succeeded in creating VOCA Shoe Polish, a product born from recycled plastic waste. It wasn’t just about making shoe polish but showing that waste could be wealth. However, the journey was far from easy. Financial constraints were a constant hurdle. I poured my NYSC savings into the project, and when that wasn’t enough, I turned to my family, who supported me despite the uncertainty. Failure became my teacher as countless trials didn’t go as planned. But each setback strengthened my resolve to find solutions.

My challenges extended beyond funding and experiments. Raising awareness about environmental issues was a battle in itself. Convincing people to adopt sustainable practices in a world driven by convenience felt like shouting into the void. Yet, I held on to my vision of making environmentalism
accessible and practical. Today, VOCA Shoe Polish is not just a product; it’s a movement. It is a testament that sustainable solutions are within our reach when we dare to think differently. Beyond shoe polish, I’ve also taken to educating others and authored a book titled “The Wealth in Waste” (How recycling can save the planet).

I teach young people how to turn waste into fashionable bags and footwear, promoting eco-friendly, affordable fashion. This initiative has kept many youth engaged and empowered. Despite the progress, the challenges remain. Funding for larger-scale projects and spreading this
message globally is still a work in progress. But I draw strength from the lives I’ve touched and the growing realization that small actions ripple into big changes.

To anyone facing obstacles, my story is a reminder: our environment is our responsibility. We have the power to innovate, create, and inspire. Persistence can turn dreams into reality even when the odds get stacked against us. Let’s transform our communities, one solution at a time.

What a journey it’s been! I’m so grateful to my creator for waking me up to my true self. At first, everything in my life changed in a way that didn’t make sense. I was losing everything.

Then Chapter 33 happened – the age that flipped everything. I realized I’m extraordinary, yes, a child of the soil. I’m different, yes, a child of the Nguni’s. I’m chosen, yes, a child of the stars. And being in the world is okay but not part of it.

I realized that my creator is within the great Mama, the elephant. The divine magic and wisdom made me for a greater purpose. That’s when meaning started to form in my life, and everything changed. Building my relationship with my creator has been my greatest gift.

When I say everyone disappeared, I mean it. Because when the High Most claims you back from this crazy world, she removes all the noise, all of it so you can solely focus on your divine power and presence in Spirit and in truth as the WOMB (MAN).

Bulelwa is my name, which is Xhosa and it means: “We Give Thanks.” Growing up, I always wondered why this name. As I got older, I realized that my Grandmother was telling me who I am, the child of the high most; so I should always give thanks for everything in my life, especially the little things, being in Gratitude energy.

Throughout my childhood, I always felt different. I just didn’t fit in. Luckily for me, I enjoyed my solitude and individuality. Like the ocean, I flow with the Rhythm of my soul, the King. My differences were never an issue because I never seemed to follow others; I wanted to be different, as opposed to what is viewed as cool, hip, and trendy. I created my path, which shaped my true essence of leadership.

Like everyone’s, my life journey has never been easy. I’m not perfect and not trying to be, but my motto is to always operate from my heart space, which is love. That’s what carried me in times when I felt like giving up… when I was heartbroken, depressed, and detached from everything.

When you have love in your heart, even if you are not loved or accepted, appreciated or valued by the world, family, or friends, our creator is love – the 5th element of nature, always there guiding you. That’s why it’s so important to put our trust in the higher power, not this world. Our creator is love.

Chapter 33 was a game-changer for me. Not only am I living my true purpose, but I also share with others to understand that all is within. The true KINGDOM of heaven starts with you inside. So this is me breaking down my spiritual journey so far. Our growth never ends. I’m just sharing my relationship with my creator.

Below are some elements of life that I believe in and can relate to:

Extraordinary
Being extraordinary is the power given to us to help ourselves and others, pouring wisdom and sharing to evoke the great spirit within others. Healing doesn’t happen without forgiveness. We have to let go of the pain, the past, and our childhood trauma so we don’t join the pity party movement. True evolution starts with understanding that we are part of something bigger than us. We are ancient, we are divine, and we are chosen for these times, this generation to serve others, not be served.

The Soil
When we truly accept that we are connected to nature, we truly understand the meaning of Ubuntu. Nature is not just a green thing and trees and flowers. Nature is a part of us, we are her children. The disconnection is making us sick. Nature is the true healer. The sun activates us through the power of our melanin. As the child of the soil, I make it my duty to educate others on the healing power of nature.

The water stands in full view for us to remember that we lack nothing, we are limitless. The flow of water is limitless. The living water in the river always goes forward, never backward, which teaches us to never give up, and to always be moving towards our dreams, vision, and goals. The majestic presence of the mountain stands in full view as a reminder that seasons come and go, but we stand firm in the great power which is the air that flows within us all, the great Spirit called life force.

Nguni
The power of our DNA goes beyond human and scientific understanding. Humankind emerged from the great mother of all kinds of colors and shades. In the great kingdom of KONG, the four brothers embarked on a journey to explore more. They reached the southern part, where the Khoi San people lived in Harambe and Uhuru. One of the brothers fell madly in love with the beautiful daughter of the Khoisan, and thus the XHOSA PEOPLE were born. The other three continued their journey, crossing the Zambezi River into Limpopo. I am a child of the NGUNI, HERORO, KHALANGA, LANA, HIMA, SHONA, KITUNI, XHOSA, ZULU, AND NDEBELE, my ancestors.

The stars
Our forgotten roots. The time has come for us to stop hiding who we truly are. We have to pay attention to the spiritual shifts that are happening. Listen carefully. We are the ORIGINALS, Ancients. Now is the time to showcase who we are through creativity and storytelling. We have to stop hiding. We come from the stars, into our m… into our mother’s belly, we are the roots. ABBA gives us Fire, THE SUN. Mama gives us WATER, life force. We are spiritual more than the physical.

I am Vincent Kiplangat Sang Masway, a student at the University of Nairobi, a scientist majoring in mathematics and physics. My journey has been far from easy, marked by challenges, doubts, and a constant drive to rise above my circumstances. This is the story of my upbringing, the obstacles I’ve faced, and the unyielding passion that fuels my dreams.

A Challenging Path in Education:

Growing up in a humble Christian household, I was raised on values of faith, hard work, and resilience. Despite these strong foundations, my journey in education has been anything but smooth. From a young age, I faced significant challenges, not just financially but also from the lack of belief others had in me. Many doubted my potential, questioning my abilities and my family’s situation. It often felt like my efforts were invisible, overshadowed by preconceived notions of what I could achieve. But each day, I chose to push forward, determined to prove that nothing in life is permanent circumstances, not doubts, and certainly not failure. Every exam passed, every hurdle overcome was a small victory against the odds stacked against me.

The Dream of Writing: A Father’s Advice

My passion for writing began with a piece of advice from my father, who always encouraged me to document my life experiences, whether they were challenges or wins. He would often say, “Everything you go through, note it down. One day, you will write about all this.” His words sparked a deep desire within me to turn my experiences into stories that could inspire others.

Writing became an outlet, a way to process my journey and turn adversity into something meaningful. I’ve authored two books, A Change in Mindset and Mastering Productivity, which capture the lessons I’ve learned and the mindset that has kept me moving forward. Unfortunately, due to financial constraints, I have been unable to publish them. Yet, I continue to write, knowing that the day will come when I can share my work with the world.

Proving Them Wrong: Motivation Through Doubt

Throughout my journey, the doubts of others have been a powerful motivator. Each time someone questioned my abilities or dismissed my efforts, it only strengthened my resolve. My story is a testament to the belief that no situation is fixed and that with perseverance, we can redefine our futures.

I have dedicated myself to my studies in Mathematics and Physics, not just as a personal achievement but as a statement “my background does not determine my potential”, my goal is to show that where we start does not dictate where we end up.

Looking Ahead: Writing My Story, Inspiring Others

Though my journey is far from over, I am committed to continuing my education, publishing my books, and using my experiences to inspire others. My upbringing, my struggles, and the doubts I have faced are all chapters of a larger narrative that I hope will encourage others to believe in their own potential, no matter the challenges.

I carry forward my father’s advice, the lessons from my hardships, and the unwavering belief that every struggle is a steppingstone. One day, I will see my books published, not just as personal milestones but as symbols of resilience and proof that nothing is permanent.

My name is Zwelihle Banks Nsiiwa. I used to work as a house helper and am now an author of educational children’s books available in 7 languages. After my sister passed away, I became the guardian of her two kids, aged 5 and 9, and had to work hard to support them. I am grateful for the support I received from others during those difficult times.

Despite the challenges, I managed to save a small amount of money each month and eventually enrolled in college. I earned certificates in Public Relations, followed by a diploma and advanced studies in Public Relations, Marketing, and Advertising. Later, I received a scholarship to pursue a degree in Broadcasting & Journalism, and then another scholarship to pursue my Master’s degree.

Alongside my studies, I started writing and publishing books, which I later translated into seven languages. It’s been a journey of tears, faith, prayer, pain, joy, hard work, and grace. I have experienced the hand of God, and I truly believe that anyone can receive a miracle from God.

Recently, I was honoured to be named among the 100 African Fashion and Arts Personalities of 2024 and was also appointed as the Botswana ‘Country Manager’ For The Iconic Brand Africa.

I truly believe that everything happened by the grace of God. I want to encourage anyone who comes across my story to have faith in God’s perfect timing and to persistently work toward their goals. One day, you too, will be able to share your own story of triumph. Don’t lose hope.

Betty Kakoma, a nominee for the esteemed SDG1 Advocate of the Year award, is a young journalist and humanitarian advocate. She currently serves as a presenter at Radio Christian Voice, where she tirelessly works towards building strong communities. 

Her proactive involvement in initiatives advocating for sustainable development goals has been particularly focused on combatting poverty within communities in Zambia and worldwide. Betty has established collaborative partnerships with numerous organisations, including 2410 Media Network on Child Rights and Development, Advocacy for Child Justice, Zambian Voice, the Global Youth Network, Courageous Youth Team, and Heavenly World Peace Restoration of Light. 

Betty’s impact goes beyond the local level, as she has participated in national dialogues and outreach programs at both local and international levels. Her tireless efforts have been vital in not only conceptualizing but also executing programs and projects aimed at eradicating poverty and fostering sustainable development.

In her role as a youth mentor, Betty has positively impacted over 100 young individuals, furthering her commitment to community development. She has been actively engaged in activities such as national election sensitization and monitoring, policy dialogue meetings, community outreach, and research reporting programs. Her dedication to advocating for sustainable development goals, governance, and peace journalism has resulted in tangible policy changes and the establishment of robust global networks.

Betty’s passion and dedication to effecting meaningful change crosses borders, and she continues to be a fervent advocate for the sustainability and development of vulnerable communities.
