You know that feeling you get when you feel like you can take over the world? Well thats the feeling I get after getting a facial. As a self-proclaimed beauty junkie, I love nothing more than having soft glowing skin. Which is why I have come up with a gfool proof at home facial that anyone can follow and that will give you that salon feeling without leaving the comfort of your home. 1. Cleanse: No facial is worth it unless you cleanse. I like to start off by using the biodern mecilla water to wipe off any dirt and grime from my face. I follow that up with an oil cleanser that I leave on to really melt off any residue dirt and ensure my skin is squeaky clean but also supple and soft.
2. Exfoliate: To remove my oil cleanser I like to use exfoliate my skin before rinsing everything off.
3. Steam: After ensuring my skin is well prepped I turn to my trusty facial steamer where I steam my face for at least 10 minutes. At this point I like to listen to some music and let the steam do its job of opening my pores.
4. Mask: Once I am doing with the steam, I turn to one of 3 different masks. depending on my skin needs, I like to either use an at home chemical peel, lather on a detoxifying clay mask or put on a sheet mask. Again depending on which mask I use I then either have a bath or watch some TV as the mask does its job.
5. Moisturize: After the mask of choice has done its job I like to moisturize my skin. Ensuring I massage my oils and creams on  my neck too.

I have to admit that I am a skincare junkie. Nothing makes me feel more relaxed and put together like a good facial. Which is why when ever I get the moment I will always opt for a facial. But with 2020 being what it was and lockdown. It was almost impossible to get a facial as often as I would have wanted. Which is why I quickly learnt how to do my own at home. One of the first things I bought was a facial steamer and let me tell you it was a game changer. As I learnt from watching Jada Pinkett Smith share her at home facial.

I realized that I was not the only one who had fallen head over heels for a good facial and steam. And whilst Jada’ skincare routine is a little more luxiourious than mine. The basic principles are the same. So I thought I’d share her tips (and mine) and hope you find a few moments to take care of yourself and your skin.

• Steam is your friend: I cannot say this enough but steam is your friend. Not only does it open your pores but it also feels good. If you don’t have a facial steamer then you can opt for boiling water, a bowl and a towel to steam your face.
• Don’t forget your neck: Many of us, myself included, forget to moisturize our necks. And whilst you may not see the benefits right now, you will thank yourself when you get older.
• Hands need love too: When doing your daily skincare routine, massage the excess products into your hands.
• Good skin can be achieved at home: Gone are the days of thinking you can only get good skin if you have a team of experts to help you along the way. Whilst getting advice when starting advice is an added bonus. It is not a must. You can get a lot of information online, and try products out at home. Most beauty stores also offer samples to try. Which means you don’t have to commit to a skincare product before trying it.
• Good hydration is key: As Jada put it “water is essential”. And we could not agree more. No amount of products in the world can replace the moisture you get from drinking water. Good diet is also important. And before you start throwing out all the junk. Hold off and instead practice moderation on the bad stuff. And ensure you load up on the good stuff.
• There is such thing as beauty sleep: As a chronic insomniac, I have struggled for years to get a good 8 hours of sleep. Throw a baby in the mix and I feel I may never get there. But what I do try to do nowadays is find moments to rest while my daughter is with the nanny. This can mean taking a quick nap in between work meetings. Or when I know I have a busy day ahead. Ensuring I get to bed as early as possible. So that even if my sleep is disrupted by night time feeds. I can still get in my 8 hours.
