Whilst it may seem tedious, the benefits of asking yourself why you are choosing a particular subject or area of study is probably one of the most important questions you will ask yourself in your lifetime. 1. Is the choice 100% yours: For some of us, choosing what to study is a family affair where everyone weighs in. And whilst family friends and parents may have your best interest at heart. After all, you are the one who has to live with the decision.
2. Are you following your heart or the promise of money: Whilst I will admit that nit having money can be stressful. The same can be said for not having a job or career you actually enjoy. Which is why trying to find a balance is key to your future success and will help ensure that you are not changing your subjects often. Also keep in mind that your job is what you will spend a great deal of time doing. So ensuring that you enjoy it is important.
3. Is your chosen university or tertiary institution the best place to study your chosen subject: I know the feeling all too well. You are about to leave school and all your friends are applying to a certain University. So you want to do the same. But it is important to ask yourself if your tertiary institution is the best place to study what ever subject or course you want. It is well known that some institutions are best for the sciences. Whilst others are perfect for the arts. So make sure you do your research on which institution is best for you.
