Emotional being,

We are with our emotions
Emotions pokes the tip of my nail
Searching for peace, to find nothing relatable,
living within me, and then to find nothing at all.
The sun pumps my smile – a new plum of smoke
straight into the my awareness,
A loud guilt that pierced through and out.

My face spoke volume, my heart dancing,
eyes sweating out the mental lies, all in the name of fear.
The hardcore realization.
This feeling is loud, lines cemented a hard pillar,
Upon this cliff, ill push on.

Love supersedes every emotion,
Peace contains every mess.
A  dream of hope to find check with my emotions,
In the altar of honesty,
A reality of freedom.

Born on women’s day You arrived on this earth on a day that celebrates the strength, resilience, and beauty of women. I’m so grateful to be your mom, and I’m honored to watch you grow and thrive.

It’s past midnight.
I’m on the edge of my bed.
The only sounds…
my pounding heart
and my grandmother’s
ancient clock.
Tick-tock. Tick-tock.
It’s almost deafening.

Maybe I should sleep.
But what if I don’t wake up?
I can’t close my eyes.
My mind is just dancing to fear.
I’ve given myself a racing heart
just by thinking.

I wish I’d said nothing
when they asked for the signs.
The symptoms that led them to cancer.
I wish I had kept my mouth shut.
Maybe then…
some other kind of miracle
would have found me.

My name is Grace Banda, and I’m thrilled to share my story with you. Growing up, I faced numerous challenges that tested my resolve and character. However, with God’s grace, I’m here today to share my journey of resilience, faith, and triumph.

One of the most significant challenges I faced was finding my purpose and passion. I struggled to identify what I wanted to do with my life, and I often felt lost and uncertain. However, with the support of my loved ones and mentors, I discovered my passion for writing and through communication.

As I pursued my passion, I encountered numerous obstacles, including self-doubt, fear, and criticism. There were times when I felt like giving up, but I refused to let my challenges define me. Instead, I chose to use them as opportunities to grow, learn, and become stronger.

I remember when I first started writing, I was terrified of what others would think. I was afraid of being rejected, being criticized, or judged. However, I didn’t let my fear hold me back. I continued to write, and with each passing day, I grew more confident and determined.

Through my journey, I’ve learned valuable lessons about perseverance, faith, and the importance of never giving up. I’ve come to realize that our struggles are not unique, but our responses to them can be. We can choose to let our challenges break us, or we can use them
as opportunities to grow, learn, and become stronger.

I’ve also learned the importance of surrounding myself with positive influences and supportive people. My loved ones, mentors, and friends have been instrumental in my journey, providing me with encouragement, guidance, and support.

To every girl out there, I want you to know that you’re not alone. The world may be full of challenges and doubters, but don’t let that hold you back. You’re stronger than you think, and you’re capable of overcoming anything. Keep pushing forward, and never lose faith in yourself

Meet Hilda Madonsela, the founder of Ekuphumuleni Home Of Peace, located at Orange Farm, Gauteng.

Hilda is a woman who makes a difference every day – and at She Evolves, we call people like Hilda “Changemakers” because they are the few people who work hard everyday to serve their communities. Hilda is a single mom of five, but despite all the many other responsibilities at home, she still finds time to help others in her community.

When our changemakers met her through our 1000 Stories, 100 1000 Trees project, she planted a tree and named it Stefanie, after one of the children she has cared for over the years. That tree is more than just a plant, it’s a symbol of hope for her and her community.

Hilda started an NGO in 2020 called Peace Daycare Centre. What began as a small daycare has grown into a safe place for children and families in need. She helps lost kids, feeds hungry families, and gives shelter to mothers and children affected by Gender Based Violence (GBV). She doesn’t have much, but she always shares what she can.

Now, she’s working on something even bigger, an orphanage centre for children with no one to care for them. She bought land opposite her home in Orange Farm and has followed the formal process and protocols by reaching out to the Social Development Office and the SAPS which is the police department at Orange Farm. But, like every other NGOs, she needs assistance to continue building the centre.

Hilda doesn’t ask for much in return. She just wants to see kids in her community thrive. That’s why the Stefanie tree matters, in many ways, it is a tree of hope… as it grows, we pray and hope that the centre/orphanage will also be growing with it.

“I began my journey as a dreamer—curious, passionate, and deeply rooted in the desire to uplift others. Even as a child, I was known for always advising my siblings, often misunderstood as being “too forward”. But my intentions were always anchored in love, wisdom beyond my years, and an innate drive to see people grow.

My love for self-development and speaking was ignited early on, shaped by the powerful words of Les Brown, whose quotes I devoured as a young reader. Yet, like many transformative journeys, mine wasn’t without obstacles. One defining moment in junior school was when I froze in front of the entire assembly while delivering a presentation. That moment of fear and vulnerability could have silenced me, but it became a turning point. Today, I face that memory with resilience, using it as fuel to become the confident speaker and motivator I continuously evolve into. I know I am more than my past traumas and fears. I am becoming the best version of myself daily.

My voice has found a home on Life On The Other Side of My Perspective, a podcast I host where I invite industry experts, speakers, and coaches to share stories that inspire personal and professional transformation. I am also a poet and writer whose journey was nurtured by teachers who believed in my talent early on. Their encouragement propelled me to pursue creative writing not just as a passion but as a tool for healing, first for myself and now for others.

Today, I am a Creative Writer for Instinctively Beyond Magazine and the proud author of Poetry From Within, published by Poetry Planet Publishing House. I am a dedicated writer, podcaster, poet, researcher, wellness, and transformational coach who uses her creative and professional platforms to contribute to personal and communal development. This collection earned me the Best Poet Award at the 5th OPHIR Awards for Writers 2025 in the Philippines. My journey as a creative writer and speaker continues to unfold with purpose.
Beyond writing and podcasting, I am deeply committed to community empowerment. I currently serve as the G100 Club Botswana Country Chair – Youth Engagement Wing, using my platform to engage and inspire the next generation of leaders.

My work spans storytelling, poetry, and holistic wellness, reflecting a commitment to meaningful engagement with individuals and communities.
My poetry was featured in international anthologies, and I collaborate with local artists to merge literary and visual arts. My upcoming booklet includes recent poems and selected works from my anthology contributions, complemented by commissioned digital artworks from local artists. I regularly perform at Travelodge Poetry Nights, held on the last Thursday of each month, using these opportunities to expand my craft through recitation. My recent feature in Tlhakakgolo Literary Journal and Poetry Journal (Nigeria) marks a growing presence within Botswana’s literary scene and a focus on local and international collaborations.

This work led to my nomination for the Founder of the Year Africa Awards 2024 in the Social Founder of the Year and Healthpreneur of the Year categories. I have been awarded Global 2024 under Healthpreneur of the Year. With more nominations surfacing, Social Founder Of The Year, Most Promising Founder of The Year, and Founder of The Year, under Founder of The Year Awards-Southern Africa 2025.

My recent nomination is for Best Young Poetry and Book Writer under the Youth In Business Awards in Tanzania. I have also been nominated for Leading Women in Africa and listed among the Top 30 Africa’s Leading Women 2025 by Crest Africa. On February 28th, 2025, I was honored with an introduction as a Botswana Country Chair for the G100 Club Wing under Youth Enterprise, Empowerment, and Leadership.

My journey is a testament to progress in motion—proof that greatness is not a destination but a continuous unfolding. Today, I stand not only as a voice of purpose but as a symbol of what is possible when we embrace who we are and pursue what we are meant to become.

The joy of knowing I didn’t lose you—
The solace of knowing it could have been so much worse.
The pain you carried,
The self-hatred that consumed you,
I felt it.

The feeling of helplessness,
hopelessness, and despair
You tried to cover with your jokes,
I felt that so painfully
When I saw you on the
hospital bed in Maitama.

I saw how frustration and disappointment
Seeped into your body,
Weighing you down.
And yet, through the hurt,
You did everything to shield me.

You always made sure there was food on the table,
Clothes on my back, shoes on my feet.
You gave love,
Even when it meant sacrificing your own needs and reputation.

I remember you standing tall,
When someone wanted to harass me,
You were not going to have any of it.
You fought to protect me,
Even if it meant putting
Yourself through the fire.

Now, I wish I could go back—
To be the little girl holding your hand,
Sitting close to you in church,
Running to you for comfort.

I wish I could relive the days
When you wrapped wedding gifts on Saturdays; our duo weekend out,
Or let me model Kampala gowns for your customers.

I wish I could sleep beside you

At night I have nightmares about horror movies I watched during the day.
I wish we could go back to our kitchen in Kubwa
Time when I was learning how to cook Jollof rice a
And it always ended up under- cooked or overcooked.

But,
Now, I need to be your grown daughter.
I want to release you from your guilt,
The guilt that whispers you didn’t do enough,
The pain that convinces you of failure.
You gave everything,
And I see that now.

I want to hold your hands,
Like you once held mine when I was a child.
I want to look into your eyes and tell you,
“It’s going to be okay,”
Not just to comfort you,
But because I truly believe it will.

I want to shield you from hurt,
The way you shielded me.
But how can I protect you,
When I can’t even protect myself?
