As I write this, I am currently home in South Africa where new restrictions have been put into place with an early curfew, no alcohol sales and ban on large gatherings. And whilst I am happy to comply, it does mean that new years is looking a little different for us, as it is for many people. As someone who has always enjoyed bringing in the new year with lots of friends, and dancing. This year there will be none of that. Instead, my quarantine crew and I will be having a lunch outside on new years eve, then settling in doors for the night as we count down with our loved ones.
But whether you are spending the new year alone or with a small group, there are ways to celebrate the year that was. And prepare for the year that will be. Here are someways to ring in the new year without leaving your home:
- Organize an at home spa day: What better way to say good bye to 2020 than to pamper yourself (and who ever else is around you). Run a hot bath and enjoy a hot soak followed by a facial, an at home manicure and pedicure and lots of infused water to help you feel refreshed and relaxed.
- Spend the day in quite reflection: Having been through so much this year, taking a moment to reflect on the year is a must. Whether you do it on new years eve or new years day. It’s important to take the time to look back on the year and think about all that you have been through. The good, the bad and the ugly. Personally I like to start off by writing down the difficult moments from the year then reflecting on the moments I learnt from and finally the good that has come from the year. Taking the time to not just focus on the bad helps show me that even with years like 2020 there can be good. And focusing on that is great way to see how full your life can be in the new year.
- Dress up: If you are like me then you probably haven’t dressed up much this year. Which is why taking the time to dress up to bring in the new year is a fun way to end the year. Put on some makeup, get your favourite outfit on and pour yourself a drink. After all, we all deserve it this year.
- Call your loved ones: Just because you cant physically be with loved ones, doesn’t mean you cant call them. Whatsapp video call your loved ones leading up to midnight and maybe even organize a family or friends zoom call for when the clock strikes midnight.
How are you planning to ring in the new year?
